Mixcloud 160722The show on Friday was a bit of a monster, 42 tracks and a little over three hours. A monster of the best kind. 🙂

However, during the first hour we did experience some issues with the ‘Listen Live’ feed, although (thankfully) the studio webcam stream was fine – although it does tend to be 30-60 seconds behind, which in turn throws the live chat out of kilter a bit when you have folk listing via both the sound sources. In any event we survived.

While continuing to use the ‘This Day in History’ format as a means to program what we play, I decided to confuse myself (but hopefully not the listeners) by apply the number three to everything; a three hour show, nine points in history, each with three or six tracks associated with it, plus three tracks bound by the number three and three miscellaneous tracks just for the craic!

All good fun, and all without a visit to the bathroom even with the usual intake of coffee. 😉

Mixcloud Fused 160715Friday’s show heard a selection of tracks from Joy Division, all from their 1979 debut album ‘Unknown Pleasures’ to commemorate the birthday in 1956 of Ian Curtis. We played ‘She’s Lost Control‘, ‘New Dawn Fades‘, ‘Interzone‘ and ‘Shadowplay‘.

We also played a handful of truly independent artists, as we generally do. This week it was the turn of Microchip Junky, The Black Hundred, Mental Escape Pod, Brutalist Architecture in the Sun and Deadlights, a track from the previous week’s release ‘We Can Go Down, But We’ll Take A World With Us (Four Evenings In The FĂźhrerbunker)‘, all well worth a listen in their own right.

As regular listeners and followers of this blog will know we share Friday nights with §Wired§, hosted by Keith Whitham, and we occasionally leap-frog editions if one or other of us have other commitments. As such Fused will be back next Friday (22nd July) as Keith has two rather special shows coming up the following two weeks (29th July & 5th August – after which Fused will be back on the 12th August). I’m sure Keith will reveal more on the §Wired§ Facebook Page as and when…

Fused 160701Last night’s show was an enjoyable two hours, spritely conversation in the chat-room with some new listeners joining in, which was good.

I made a couple of errors, which isn’t unusual; one, I suggested that Woody Allen had scripted ‘Casino Royale’ (the 1967 version), which was incorrect. Whilst he was in the film, as ‘Jimmy Bond’, he didn’t write it but, like Sellers and others, contributed to the dialogue uncredited. He did write – and appeared in – ‘What’s New Pussycat’ two years earlier another film with the two Peters (Sellers & O’Toole – the latter being uncredited in ‘Casino Royale’).

I also introduced the track ‘Ashes’ as being Orbital, featuring Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. What I should have said was The Orb, featuring Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry – which I did get right after the track.

Anyhoo, getting it wrong isn’t something new, I often misremember ‘fact’ but no worries, all part of the charm, eh. 😉

Fused-Profile-Pic2-Colouriser-160527No overarching theme this time round though we did open with a wee sample from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou leading into the first track proper.

We also celebrated the birthdays of those three masters of horror, Vincent Price, Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing (‘Master of Terror!’).

There was some Punk in evidence also, along with our usual dietary staple in the form of electronica.

We also unearthed the sample used on ‘Hey Sexy’ by Die Antwoord, which was from 1968 and by the divine Delia Derbyshire.

The ‘Sound of the Cloud’ segment, our request spot, was a track by The Pop Group called ‘Where There’s a Will’ from 1980. If you have a request get in touch.

    You can listen again here.
