Tx 160513So, we went with the number thirteen as a theme last night – not ideal for any triskaidekaphobics but hey, waddayagonnado!

That opened the door for the likes of Django Reinhardt who might not otherwise get a look in, likewise Mr.Kitty and Goldfrapp, although, admittedly, the latter was there on the fact it was her birthday.

We also have a section in the show where we try and play a track that has been requested by one of our lovely and loyal listeners, we call the slot the ‘Sound of the Cloud‘. Last night we played a Time Zone track. ‘World Destruction‘.

So, if you have a request and it’s something that would fit into what we play drop us a line via the Contact Us page, if we have it we’ll play it.

You can listen again to this show here.

  • TFWP Tx 6th May 2016

Tx 160506Last nights show opened with a slice of Orson Welles’ radio presentation from 1938 of ‘War of the Worlds‘ to set the mood for the first track, ‘The Eve of The War’ – Jeff Wayne vs. Ben Liebrand.

We also generated some interesting conversion in the live chat-room around the Krautrock tracks we curated, which was very encouraging, I think we’re on the right track in terms of listener expectation, although the numbers had dropped from the first show, but that is to be expected as the show beds in, then we hope the numbers will increase slowly as word gets out.

We’re developing a format of sorts, part of which is a dip into history in regard to musical birthdays on the day we go out, birthdays and other events. These serve as a springboard for inclusion of related tracks (some rather tenuously so it has to be said), and these tracks lead on to others. All good fun and leads to greater variety.

Tx 160429Our second outing with Fused on Globegig Radio went very well, though still getting familiar with the software/hardware interface, schoolboy errors in evidence.

Whereas last time we nipped back to 1948 for an early example of Musique concrète, this time we featured the work of Delia Derbyshire, particularly that which she produced during her time with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in Maida Vale, London during the 60s & 70s. Kicking off with the original ‘Dr Who‘ theme (written by Ron Grainer and realised by Delia in 1963), we played two further pieces; ‘Voice of John Peel‘ and ‘Running‘.

In addition to closing the show with ‘Fireball‘ by Don Spencer (by way of homage to the legendary 007 Club), we also play a Laibach track in each show, and last nights was their cover of the Status Quo number ‘In the Army Now‘, although some in the chat-room thought we were going to play the original, much relief all round when the opening strains broke out.

Tx 160415The inaugural show of The Fused Wireless Programme on Blackpool’s Globegig Radio ‘aired’ last night and was reasonably well attended for an Internet radio event, and well received (thankfully).

We kicked off with a snippet of the stand-up comic Peter Kay’s intro to his ‘Live at the Top of the Tower‘ show by way of some jollity – while Fused is about the music there’s still room for some fun and other well intentioned content.

In the latter part of the show we played an electro-acoustic piece by Pierre Schaeffer (Cinq Etudes De Bruits: Violette) from 1948 which, while a calculated risk, it being our first show, went down well in the live chat-room on the Globegig site – effectively opening the door for future exposure of pioneers and early experimental and avant-garde electronic music in future shows (the sort of interesting music we don’t often get the opportunity to play when DJing in venues).

The time flew by and no sooner had we started than it was time to say “Goodnight” by way of, what will become a signature sign off tune, ‘Fireball’ by Don Spencer – this is a nod to the ‘007’ club of yore, Blackpool active in the late 70s/early 80s and a formative place it was too where the then resident DJ would finish the night off with ‘Fireball’.

You can listen again to this show here.
